July 2019 Work noticeJuly 23, 2019
What we are doing
Qualified arborists (tree experts) will be trimming and ‘lifting the canopy’ of a tree in the Cathedral site. ‘Lifting the canopy’ means removing the lower branches of the tree, increasing the distance between the branches and the ground.
This is beneficial for the ongoing health of the trees. It will also help protect against any accidental damage from machinery that will be coming onto site in the near future for soil sampling.
We’re also removing one unlisted tree. Removing this tree will make it much easier and safer to move around and work on the building. There are three ‘listed’ trees on the Cathedral site. We are not planning to remove these trees. Listed trees are protected under the Christchurch District Plan.
Arborists will do regular tree maintenance throughout the life of the project.
We’ll be making a temporary gate in the Cathedral fence near the Chalice. We’ll be temporarily removing two or three of the wooden panels and replacing these with a wire fence. Once the work is finished (around late August), the wooden panels will be put back. This enables access for tree maintenance machinery, and the machinery needed for geotechnical ground testing in August.
There will be low level noise during work hours.
- All work is subject to favourable weather and on-site conditions. Work will be rescheduled if necessary.
